Dear Sugar-Roo,
Do you know how much I love you? I didn't get to meet you when you came home from the hospital. I had to wait a few days until the weekend. Mimsy and Poppa were already there to help your Mommy and Daddy with the "new arrival" and with your brother. When I walked in the door I heard a very loud crying. I looked into your bassinet and wondered how such a big sound could come out of such a tiny little girl. Your little face was red and screwed up with the effort of crying so loudly. Your little hands were balled up in fists and waving in protest at the injustice of it all. And in spite of all that (or maybe because of it), my Auntie's heart surrendered once more and I fell in love with you, too.
I want to share with you in the writing to come, all the things I pray for you in your life. You are my darling niece, Harmony, and I only want what is good and fulfilling for you.
You are smart, talented, creative, and beautiful. Yet, to my mind, those aren't even the most important things about you. To me, the most important thing about you is your sweet heart and the love that resides there. I pray it always will.
This brings me to the first promise I want to circle you with in prayer. It is found in Matthew 5:6.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)
Even though this is one of the blessings that Jesus gave on the Mount, it is also a promise. If you are hungry or thirsty, you look for something to eat or drink, right? And once you've eaten them you have been filled. It is the same when you hunger and thirst for righteousness. You need to seek spiritual food and drink to satisfy that hunger and thirst. That spiritual food and drink can be found in God's Word. So, eat hearty (no calories!); drink deeply (it's refreshing!). And enjoy it as often and as long as you want. You will be filled. Filled with God's love; filled with His light; filled with His goodness.
I love you, Sugar-Roo,
Auntie Geri
Dear Heavenly Father,
I present my niece, Harmony, to You. I love that her name can mean getting along in peace or that it can mean a blending of musical voices. Pretty cool, don't You think?
I fell in love with this little bit from the moment I saw her. I have watched her grow from a red-faced, crying baby to the sweet young tween she is today. I know You have watched her, too.
In a couple of years, Harmony will be old enough to be baptized. I am sure she will take Bible studies to help her in making this important decision. To that end, I want to circle her in the promise found in Matthew 5:6. I ask You to create in her a hunger and a thirst for You. Help her to seek spiritual nourishment to satisfy that hunger and thirst. Build up her spiritual palate so that she will hunger and thirst for the deepest part of You all of her life. And as Harmony partakes of Your spiritual food, may she be blessed with Your love, Your light, and Your goodness. So much so, that it will overflow from her and spill onto others.
I ask this in the precious name of Jesus, seeking Your will.
Amen.
